Soft Floors

Carpet is first choice for living rooms and bedrooms in New Zealand. In Australia this medium is often found in bedrooms while harder surfaces are used in other parts of the home.
Flooring choices include short pile, tight loop, twist, cut and shag pile.
Plus artificial and natural fibres. You’ll be led, or naturally gravitate to one or the other.
Artificial carpets are composed of nylon, polyester, polypropylene/olefin (low-melt point – no good if there is a smoker in your home). Carpet tiles are often used commercially or where it’s necessary to replace sections of the flooring.
Natural carpet options generally include wool. This is ideal in an older house as wool keeps the room warm.
Blends:
* Wool blends (e.g. 80% wool and 20% nylon) are more durable than pure wool and usually more competitively priced.
* Triextra and other trade names (made from petroleum based products and corn) is a popular choice because it is fade and stain resistant, and soft.

Colour is fashion driven and personal choice although Feng Shui homes have darker floors than the walls.
Visit at least three showrooms, as salespeople have their own favourites. Gather the data to assess the pro’s and con’s of the products, and enjoy the experience.
