Post 5 Bedrooms

Today we’ll share the essentials for a relaxing bedroom and things you can do to maximise quality sleep.  Ideally you’d start with a great bed, the  best bedding you can afford, suitable window treatments and an absence of clutter and technology:

  • A wooden slat bed and a mattress that supports your back and allows for plenty of ventilation is ideal. For the youthful and strong we suggest latex or, for the rest of us, a pocket sprung mattress with a thick topper pad. It’s important not to feel the springs
  • Bedding;  natural fibre sheets e.g. cotton, linen or hemp. Woollen blankets and duvets of feather, wool or silk
  • Keep the room tidy. Pick up clothes from the floor and remove paper-work, with the exception of pen and paper to write until you’re thought-free.
  • Remove all technology including electric blanket, television, digital clock radio and mobile phone. If you must have your phone closeby don’t charge it while sleeping and keep it at least one metre from your head

We suggest keeping the bedroom dark at night using blockout lined curtains and blinds. Heavy linings also reduce temperature fluctuations. Try to avoid sleeping above or beside water pipes and minimise mirrors in this room. Lavender oil and music have been used for centuries to promote sleep. Meditation products are currently receiving rave reviews so keep searching.
