Maximising the living room

Here are some suggestions for getting more usage from the living room. The space already functions for sitting, eating, reading, television viewing, socialising and more. If your budget can run to a sofa bed the room will have an additional purpose.

Consider two settings; one to suit your summertime activities and a cosier layout for winter.

Summer:
Arrange the room to include a view of your garden through glass doors or your windows. Bring out cool coloured accessories and if there’s a direct access outside, include a barbeque and summertime outdoor furniture closeby.

Winter:
Position the furniture around a fireplace, television or piano and bring the focus inward. An additional floor rug, throws, candles, books and fabric table runners with give a cosy feeling. If you plan to move the television seasonally you’ll want an additional power point/tv aerial plug as it’s not safe to run cords across the floor.

If the furniture is too heavy for you to move arrange a family event and celebrate spring and autumn with a fresh room layout. You’ll be amazed at how different your living room will feel after half a day of re-arranging and cleaning those hard-to-get-at places.
Tip: Follow the change of season by celebrating with a shared lunch and there’ll be a buzz of excitement all round.

Thank you,
