My First Post! Inspiring stories…

What inspires you?
Friends, travel, art, interior design magazines?
I’m inspired by architects, engineers and other great problem solvers.

Take for example Frank Lloyd Wright 1867-1956. At Oak Park, a green and leafy Chicago suburb, he built a home and studio for his wife and six children. He had a passion for grand pianos and found himself unable to fit his purchase into the space.

Lateral thinking was called for and the man found a solution…
A set of stairs sitting adjacent to the end wall of the studio had a gap below. He removed the wall between the studio and the stairwell and recessed the piano.

The next challenge was to hear the music so he hinged each wooden riser to fold under the tread. The piano sat tidily tucked into the corner of his studio and was able to be heard throughout the home. Genius!

Have you had any house challenges that required thinking-outside-the-square?
I’d enjoy hearing your stories.
Thank you,
Betty
